One of the coolest & rarest cars to come from Italy during the mid-60’s was a car made w/a collaboration between Fiat & Ferrari, close cousins for many years. Ferrari was racing cars with many different motor sizes. In 1965 Ferrari wanted to homoaligate the Dino V-6 motor to go racing & needed a street car to sell to the public. Ferrari needed to make 3000 copies with this motor to be able to go racing worldwide & this Dino model was going to be their homoligation chance & was made in both Coupe & Spider configurations. Hence the 1st 2000 cc Spiders made the world stand & pay attention as these gorgeous cars had the curb appeal & that Ferrari growl that we all respected. Today these are very popular for rallies & events the world over. The Ferrari 2.0 liter motors were used on the 1st 1000 or so cars produced thru 1971. It was the same motor used on the Ferrari Dino 206 Alloy Coupes in which are far more valuable than the later cars. Its 5 spd. transmission shifts smoothly. We have gone thru all of her mechanicals to make sure she runs perfectly & reliably. Please see our videos for an on-line test drive.
We have just completed, this wonderful & rare, very early production 1967 Dino Spider (# 0076). It was restored to its original condition. What makes this Dino Spider so special is it is equipped from new as a “Hard Top” only optioned Spider having no soft top at all ever on it from new. At that time Mercedes Benz made a 230SL with an optional “California” package having this same premise…no soft top or its bulky soft top mechanical components w/a small jump seat for 2 (making it essentially a 2+2) & Fiat made 1 or 2 examples like it & this is the only one known. This Dino was originally a Medium Blue color & we decided since it needed to be taken completely part for its restoration, to paint it something more Ferrari-like that was as excitiing as any Spider they were producing.
Owned for many years thru the 70’s & early 80’s by Mr. Andy Fotis of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Its last long term caretaker was a Mr. Alan Bjerstedt, whom purchased it from Mr. Fotis in Colorado in 1987. It then was moved to Dallas, Texas w/Mr. Bjerstedt until we purchased it late last year. Now showing a mere 88K km from new (that is only 55K original miles) & it appears actual. It is an all original & very rust free car. It was completely restored cosmetically it to its factory specs by Classic Car Restoration of Ft.Lauderdale, Florida. It was taken apart completely & had a bare metal refinish to this stunning Rosso Dino w/its complimentary Black interior w/its matching Black Hard top sporting its original plexi window & all its stainless trim pieces (also completely restored). Every original Fiat part was saved when possible & refurbished. It is a very rare super early unusually optioned car & these 1st generation early production Spiders are on everyones hit list. They are going up quickly every year lately & doubling in price so don’t wait any longer. This is one very special car in stunning original condition. It is now ready for the show circuit.
The color of choice for our rare Fiat is the beautiful Ferrari Rosso Dino Orange. It was applied to a completely stripped bare metal body to make it a perfect show car. We completely stripped its undercarriage & fender wells of all of its factory undercoating & repaired any surface rust needed & it is now like new.
These early cars also have the 1st type, prettiest & most simplistic all Black interior w/silver trim inside, pre-dating the later ones with the faux wood trimmed dash that reminds us of some British cars from this period. It also has freshly refinished factory Knock-Off Wheels w/new rubber as opposed to the later bolt-on wheel cars. It also has every piece of rubber trim & all insignias replaced with new ones. Its bumpers are brand new too. When you look over this fabulous example…she is truly ready for any great rallies & car events worldwide. This is also the only Dino Spider optioned like it. One will be proud to be its next caretaker.
