1931 Martin 0-17
This is a great example of what Martin specialized in…making such fabulous sounding small bodied models of all types. This is a very special 1 family owned from new early production 0-17 made in 1931, 1 of just 353 12-Fret neck models w/slotted headstock made in its final year prior to the new 14-Fret necks were introduced. Its Mahogany top is quite clean that’s been played a bit & pre-dating factory pickgards & still having of its original scalloped braces. Its Mahogany back & sides are also crack free & quite clean too. Its 1 piece neck feels very comfy w/1 13/16″ nut & its smooth “V” shape, plays great & has a great neck angle. It sports a Brazilian Rosewood headstock veneer w/Martins early logo which is stamped on the back of its headstock along w/its “Made in the USA” stamp. This was ordered & delivered new in Canada to its original owner as a wedding gift. It was gifted to her Grand Daughter, Laura Nevett who played in Left handed, back in 1974 & retained by her until we acquired it (see photo). Its original tuners are still intact. Its Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard & bridge are still quite nice. Amazingly she still retains her original “Bar” Frets which Martin stopped by mid-1934 when the started using the more modern “T” shaped frets. Records show its neck block was stamped on July 6th, 1931 & it left the factory w/final inspection on September 2nd, 1931. If you ever wanted a killer playing & sounding 91 year old “0” size Martin…this is it. She’s excellent overall & comes in a generic case.
