1965 Hofner 500/2 Club Bass
The Hofner Bass is one of the most well known in the world made famous by Paul McCartney of the Beatle’s. Paul bought his 1st Hofner, known as the “Cavern” Bass from the German Club & was the famous 500/1 Violin shape we all know today. Made as early as 1955. It was a decade later when Hofner introduced the single cutaway “Club” Bass. This is a very early example from April 1965. Its Sunburst finish is clean & quite cool in all respects. It has a 2 piece maple neck w/a white bound rosewood fingerboard w/a raised gold Hofner plastic logo. It has a set of 4 white button tuning machines used only during this 2-3 year period. Its larger single cut body has a spruce top over a very flamey maple back & sides. It has a pair of early transitional pickups w/4 staple poles & 4 adjustable screw type pole pieces. It has the c.1961-4 slimmer pickup surrounds w/side adjustment screws. Its rhythm pickup has transitional small top screws holding it to the top where as the bass pickup has only side adjustment screws. It has its original white pearloid pickgard & the larger matching square pearloid control plate. She still sports her original gold capped white knobs & shorter tailpiece. This bass came to me via Mayfield Heights, Ohio but originally from its original owner who played it very little over the years. The back of the headstock states “Made in Western Germany”. It has pot code dates from the 14th week in 1965. It is an Exceptional player in Exceptional all original condition & comes w/what appears to be its original square shaped gray hard case. $Not For Sale.
