1963 Mosrite Ventures 4-String "Bound" Body Bass
This is the 1st example of a Mosrite Ventures Bass we’ve ever had from this ultra early 1st production run made personally by Semie Mosley. Its 3-tone Sunburst finished neck & body are super clean & shiny. Its still sports its original Green’gard & Saucer knobs. Its the 1st ever Ventures Bass we’ve seen & owned w/the top of its body being single bound. Many bound body Guitars have passed thru our hands but never a Bass from this year. We’re very excited as we are fans of this early 60’s period of Semie Mosley’s new brand when all of their guitars & basses had glued in “set-necks”, “single bound bodies” & the ultimate early “side jack” placement. The story goes that this bass was brought back to Semie to make a few improvements in or around 1966. He personally added a 2nd pickup in the lead position w/a new 3 way switch & he changed the original tuning machines out for his new & improved post 1966 versions from that period. Thank god he kept both original pots dating to the 49th week of 1963…oh-so rare a 1st year Bass. She’s 9 lbs. 6 oz. w/killer sustain & tone qualities. We are not fans of changed vintage guitars & basses but when the man does it himself we are more forgiving. Plus to wait for another one may take another 55 years to find. This is a great bass & is exceptionally clean & comes in its original hard case.
