Description
This is a very rare 1968 Vox Stinger IV Electric Bass Guitar made in Italy w/serial # 403393. Its 3-tone Sunburst finish is ultra clean over its laminated maple body. Its maple neck has a bound dot inlaid ebony fingerboard. The Stinger IV is a direct descendant of the Vox Wyman bass w/the same teardrop-shaped hollow body and very narrow neck. Bill Wyman’s endorsement deal was relatively short-lived, by 1968 the bass no longer bore his name but Vox continued with the same basic design. The Stinger has the typical Vox appointments for that year; wider-cased metal covered pickups and a very large headstock with a VOX logo made of individual gold plastic letters. Its original tortoise’gard is slightly warped but nice to have. This model does not have the elaborate onboard transistorized effects introduced by Vox around 1968, but shares the same features and hardware as the instruments that do. These are some of the nicest Vox instruments in terms of build quality and fretwork, this is a fast-playing and good sounding if rather eccentrically styled bass from the company’s later ’60’s line, a distinctive instrument by any standard. This is an exceptionally clean all original example & comes w/its original blue tolex vinyl tool bag & a black leather strap in its rare original square shaped hard case.
