Description

The Guild Bluesbird has long been well known as a strong alternative to the Les Paul and other similar guitars. But the guitar evolved over decades, from the M-75 Aristocrat in the 50s, through several iterations to the current Bluesbirds in Guild’s Newark Street lineup. In 1967, Guild replaced the Aristocrat’s Franz P-90 style pickups with mini-humbuckers and named the guitar M-75 Bluesbird. This newer M-75 retained the lighter weight hollow body of the Aristocrat. This continued for about 3 years, until a solid-body (and heavy !) design was introduced, along with the then-new HB-1 Humbucker pickups. This M-75 is the rarest & 1 & only made exactly like this !

We have here a very rare transitional Bluesbird & perhaps, the only one like it ever made by the Guild factory perhaps some type of prototype. It’s still retains an earlier type M-75 Hollow body made during the transition to their solid body version that debuted by 1970. It was made w/a delicious all Blonde finish over an incredibly flamey bound laminated maple body having stunning figuring on its Top & Sides but she has “Quilted to Death” maple to its back of its body. This may be the final hollow body version ever produced & shares most everything w/its now new solid body version. Its 1 piece mahogany neck feels great & it’s got pretty white pearl block inlays w/a white bound rosewood fingerboard. It’s got all chrome parts including its tuners & its harp tailpiece. What makes this a 1-off is its traditional hollow body w/Guild’s new Muller adjustable Stop Tailpiece Bridge assembly replacing its floating wood bridge from the past. FYI this Muller tailpiece was designed for their new solid body version that came w/a slanted stop tailpiece & never appeared on the earlier hollow body counterparts. It also has a solid mahogany block inside the hollow bodywork to hold the studs in place. Complete w/its cool black stair-step pickgard & chrome capped black knobs, this M-75 is truly a 1 of a kind Bluesbird & never was repeated. Perhaps made for the 1971 NAMM show to be compared w/the new solid bodies. We have never seen anything like this & you will be the only one on your block to have it. It’s absolutly near mint in all respects & is an untouched example. She comes complete in an older Brown Tolex hard case.
