1979 Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion "Prototype"
This is the very unusual & historically signifcant Howard Roberts Fusion “Prototype” made by Gibson starting in 1979. This is an unusual guitar in many ways w/a mix of a Jazz guitar influence w/a Rock & Roll tone crunch when needed. Having a small 16″ sharp cut Arch Top body w/a factory Stop Tailpiece. This has a factory Blonde finish requested by Howard as this was not an optional color. Its 3-piece maple neck has no serial #, no made in USA but it has a small volute. Its bound dot inlaid ebony fingerboard also has a special bound Headstock. Its 2 Humbuckers are pat. # stamped that sound smooth as butter ! Its Schaller by Gibson tuners, its tun-a-matic bridge, its chrome capped knobs & a TP-6 Stop Bar make this a 1 of a kind design. Whats coolest about this is it has no serial # from day 1, but its sporting a factory Orange Label designated the Howard Roberts Fusion “Prototype” by Uncle Oprin (still looking into that) & is clearly the very 1st one produced having a few “Proto” finish flaws. Its rather excellent overall & comes in its original Brown Tolex hard case.
