Description

Here we have a Steinberger XL2 Headless Fretted Bass, dating to 1984 and built at the Steinberger shop in Newburgh, New York. It uses the unmistakable headless design based on the L2 and is made of graphite reinforced epoxy with some plastic components (the top). Ned Steinberger came from a fine arts background, focusing on sculpture, to create highly influential instruments, particularly the headless guitar and bass. The Steinberger Bass is a radical departure from previous instruments, not just because of the headless design with tuners at the tail end, but because of its successful use of composite materials including graphite-epoxy blends. When these appeared in the early 1980’s, they were rapidly adopted by new pop bands and are heard on many recordings of the period. She plays great & is a very complete bass having no mods or changes. She is excellent overall & comes w/her original knee rest in its original Steinberger Gig Bag.
