Description

Every once in a while you find something that attracts your attention that is far from the norm. Gibson made some “Map” shaped guitars back in the early 80’s. Most had a Gibson logo…some were made in the USA w/the Epiphone moniker. These are very desirable today. In 1998, a good friend of ours, Tommy Salamoni, who worked for MAE Music in Ft.Lauderdale, along w/his buddy Dave May, were going thru the Gibson Factory putting in some orders & seeing what was laying around that could be purchased immediately. Tommy came across a beautiful Red, White & Blue Map guitar. They were not making them at the time. In fact Rick Gembar, Gibson’s head of the Custom Shop, had this beauty made for himself.  It was not for sale at that time. Somehow Tommy talked them into selling to him for his friend Dave & the rest is history. The story goes that Rick Gember came back to his office & found out they sold it to Tommy & he was pissed off. At that moment, he ordered Gibson to make 50 more copies to sell to the public. They were not made in 1998, but made around the year 2000 thru 2001 & all of those Map guitars had a White Star inlay on their headstocks. This example of that Map Guitar was made w/a special “Sparkle Star finish”. It was made having a Silver Sparkle top w/Red & Blue Sparkle Stars all over it. Its back & neck was done in a contrasting Black finish. Its headstock has a branded “Roadworn” stamp & it comes with its certificate of Authenticity, warranty card & packing slip all documenting this crazy cool special order.   This is a true 1 of a kind factory made USA Map guitar made for someone special. It is like new & has its original  hardshell case.
