1961 Hofner 500/1 Cavern Bass

This is a fabulous 65 year old vintage Hofner 500/1 Cavern Bass from late 1961. It’s probably the most famous bass in the world always played by Mr. Paul McCartney in the Beatles earliest days when he used one in the Cavern Club when performing in Germany. It’s like it came out of a time capsule. It’s a stunning all original example. It happened to be built at the very end of 61 when Hofner was in transition from the 61 cavern model to the new 62 model 500/1 body. A factory built late 61 Cavern model with the arched back and script logo headstock ! Its 2 pickups are the coolest type w/no pole pieces or screws, just Hofners embossed logo’s. The control panel is stamped 250K 331 stamped on the fiberboard base plate w/the 3 digits showing date codes from the 33rd week of 1961. Its body was originaly stamped when produced & dated October 19th, 1959. Completed after the Headstock went from sporting the earlier vertical Hofner logo to the newer script Gold horizontal logo. Its exceptionally clean & comes in a nice reissue tweed case.
