Description

An incredible, top of the line, rare, Guild Duane Eddy DE-500. Introduced in 1962 this was a high spec model in Guild’s range after they took on the endorsement of the “King of Twang,” and now “Hall of Famer” Duane Eddy. A very popular instrumentalist of the time Duane famously played a Gretsch 6120 in his early career before acquiring an endorsement with Guild in 1962. By this point Duane had sold around 12 million albums and was a significant influence on future stars such as The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, The Ventures and Steve Earle to name a few. This is is a superb example of his original signature model, the DE-500 – a model based on the T-500. It features a Spruce top, laminated Maple back/sides, thinline 17″ single cutaway body, laminated Maple neck and Ebony fingerboard, along with suitable high-end appointments such as the split pearl/abalone block fingerboard inlays, “G” shield decal to the headstock, multi-bound body and neck and gold plated hardware. Controls are inspired by Gretsch with the addition of a master volume control on the cutaway along with the Bigsby vibrato. As you can see in the photos this is a superb looking example with loads of character. The beautifully faded 3-Tone Sunburst lacquer finish has honeyed and aged beautifully showing dings and scratches commensurate with its use and age. Pickups are Guild’s standard humbuckers of the period that deliver a nice balanced tone with some pleasant top end befitting of Duane’s trademark sound. She’s 100% original & excellent overall & comes in its original rough black tolex hard case.
