Description
We have another very special 1968 Gibson Barney Kessel Regular in fabulous condition and in perfect working order. This 58 year old Kessel features its original Cherry Sunburst Nitro Lacquer finish on both its neck & body, she’s got 1 piece mahogany neck w/a Rosewood fingerboard w/a cool late 60s neck carve, She’s got spectacular flamey Maple all over its body, she’s sporting a pair of Pat. # Stickered Humbucking pickups that sound like Pat Metheny. The fully hollow 17″ wide maple body yields tremendous tonal complexity, characteristic of the note attack and clarity of maple, but also the smoothness and warmth attributable to the hollow body construction. Its oval orange label is clear & clean & its serial # is quite visible. This was ordered new by a fellow w/the initials “ML” which Gibson added his initials made from the matching pickgard laminated material. The sound is bold and balanced acoustically, and the HB’s yield plenty of glassy, percussive cut and sweet midrange bark. It’s got no touch-up or overspray. Its original pickgard is perfect & it retains its trapeze tailpiece w/Barney Kessel’s name ! She’s exceptionally clean & comes in a nice older hard case.
