Description
This is a PRS Private Stock #1068 is an early, one-of-a-kind instrument from the Private Stock program (which began in 1996). Private Stock is PRS’s highest tier—hand-built instruments using the rarest, carefully selected “vault” tonewoods, maximum customization, and exceptional craftsmanship by a dedicated team. Every Private Stock is treated as a unique build (built-to-order or limited), with details such as the Private Stock number, date, and often Paul Reed Smith’s signature on the back of the headstock. Numbers started at #1 in January 1996; by the mid-2000s they had reached the low thousands (for example, a 10th Anniversary model is recorded around #1326 in 2006), so #1068 falls in the late 1990s to early 2000s range.
Early Private Stocks often featured exotic or highly figured woods (curly/quilted maple, Brazilian rosewood, etc.), premium inlays (sometimes mammoth ivory, abalone, or gold outlines), and high-end appointments that set them apart from Core models of the time.
Here’s a magnificent very special ordered PRS McCarty Private Stock Custom 22-Fret Archtop # 1068 completed on 10/11/06 w/a Piezo pickup w/a beautiful Natural finished Carved Spruce Top. This is one of few PRS Custom Private Stock guitar’s from a private collectors incredible collection. The woods on this guitar were personally hand-selected by the dealer from the PRS Private Stock vault. This one also has a very curly carved maple back. It has a Brazilian fretboard and a Brazilian headstock overlay and truss rod cover. Its excellent overall & has been enjoyed by its last caretaker.
At its heart we have a Custom 22 Semi-Hollow, a featherweight clocking in at a perfectly balanced 5 lbs. 12 oz. Meant to be an inspiration to look at as well as to perform with including stainless steel frets, an 11″ fretboard radius with Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, mahogany neck, super classy brushstroke inlays, powerful Humbucking p’ups. This is not just another guitar to hang in the den, this one begs to be played.
