Description
This is a killer example of Gibson’s earliest attempt to make proper vintage ’59 Reissues as they started making better guitars across the board. The “Elite” was a top line model usually w/better woods & an Ebony fingerboard w/trapizoid inlays. Its pencil’d “HSB” for Heritage Sunburst in its top pickup cavity & now faded to a beautiful Honey’burst finish over some ridiculously Quilted & Very Grainey Maple Top which is highly unusual. Its see-thru mahogany finish on the back & sides of the body also has a lovely very figured grain pattern. She’s sporting 2 pat.# stamped “Tim Shaw” pickups, original pots w/a nice pickgard, Nashville tun-a-matic bridge & stop tailpiece. Its Kluson Tuners hold tune well. At this time Gibson was bitched at thru the 70’s for using 2 piece sandwiched bodies, but this one having an early solid 1 piece mahogany body w/a great feeling 1 piece Mahogany neck w/its 1982 serial # & a specific run # 1374. She’s truly exceptionally clean & comes w/a nice original brown tolex /pink lined hard case.
