Description
We’ve just acquired this stunning 1998 Fender Custom Shop ’60 Stratocaster in the coolest Surf Green finish, # 3 of only 5 made for Sam Ash. The early Fender Custom Shop years under John Page have become an important chapter in Fender history. The focus was on vintage-inspired instruments with exceptional attention to detail, and this Strat is a wonderful example of that era. The exceptionally figured birdseye maple neck is a real eye-catcher & it feels fantastic. Thankfully, there is more to this guitar than good looks. Plugged in, it delivers a healthy, lively Strat sound with both chime and authority. It’s loaded w/a set of Fat 50’s pickups that simply kick ass in a good way. The neck pickup is round and full, the bridge is open and powerful, and the in-between positions are equally convincing. Every position has its own voice, which is not something I take for granted on a guitar that has seen so little playing time. This is a guitar that was clearly loved, yet remains in remarkably clean condition. It was purchased by renowned photographer, Ray Baldino, new from Steve Pisini at Sam Ash. The original COA issue dated May 1998 & she comes complete w/bill of sale from Sam Ash (faded) in its original Tweed hard case.
